Meet Brieanna

My name is Brieanna Akers, I am running for Tennessee House of Representatives for District 62 against Pat Marsh. Which is Bedford County, Moore County, and part of Lincoln County.

I am 38 years old and have lived in Bedford County for 34 years. I attended Cascade K-12th grade.  I am a mom and sole provider to an awesome 12 year old as well as an independent medicare insurance agent. I have seen first-hand the struggles my clients face being on a fixed income and trying to budget between healthcare and bills.  We all know what its like to work hard, raise kids, and deal with the rising cost around us.

So that is why I am running  for a F.R.E.E. Tennesse and I want to tell you what FREE really means:

F means fighting for equal rights: The same rules, the same respect for everybody. We have some of the harshest bills going through and being passed in legislature. Our laws are meant to protect not discriminate or make people feel less than.  Liberty and Justice for all.

R means Reviving our rural communities: because small towns and farmers are the backbone of our state. For our farmers we have an opportunity here to become more locally independent. We have the resources.  I am working with a local farmer who has helped write numerous grants in agriculture.  Lets work together to utilize our resources.

E stands for Economic opportunity: because if you are working full time in Tennessee, you shouldn’t be worrying about how to pay your bills.  The $7.25 minimum wage has not changed since 2009 while our cost of living has risen 45%-55% overall. I want to propose “Tennessee Fair wage Plan” with a two-year review system.  Gradual steps to not hurt our small businesses.  Offer temporary tax credits for small businesses under a certain revenue and a certain number of employees. I want to tax the big corporations. We give away $700 million a year in corporate tax cuts.  We can modestly increase that to make sure we are covering the $800 million it would cost us to eliminate the grocery tax.

E means Empowering public education: Our public schools are under attack and being defunded.  I want to get them the resources they need, work with teachers and administration to make sure every child no matter where they live and who they are has a fair chance to succeed.  Whether that’s college, a trade school, or going straight to work.

A FREE Tennessee means you can afford your groceries, keep your land, raise your kids, and know your voice matters just as much as anyone else’s.

I’m not backed by big money. I’m backed by people like you. And I’m ready to fight for all of you.
